       Galveston’s Own Farmers Market 9-1pm (Sun) & 3-7pm (Thurs) (Every Sunday & Thursday)
      *Pick up some local produce and help support local farmers and growers. They usually have a kids corner here and an artist playing some tunes.  Farmers Market **Thursday market doesn't start until April 21st**

Sea Scout Base Galveston
       Schooner Sundays 2-5pm (Every Sunday)
       *Get a fresh start to the day and set sail on the Galveston Sea Scout Base’s schooner boat during “Schooner Sundays.” The massive sailing beauty leaves Offats Bayou just after noon each Sunday and sails out to destinations beyond Galveston causeway. A licensed captain and “spot tracker” is aboard the ship, so you can sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. *Check with website for cost involved*  Schooner Sundays

       *Aqua Lab is an educational program designed by local teachers for local students. Galveston Island State Park

       Turtle Patrol Jr. 6-7pm  
       *Become a Jr. Ranger and help save the sea turtles! You can become a citizen scientist, and help the park to understand more about the Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtle, an endangered species that nests Galveston Island State Park. You will take a stroll down the beach and explore ways to help the environment. Meet at the day use picnic area and begin a short hike down the beach and through the dunes, patrolling for turtles on this easy, evening beach hike. Great for anyone wanted to become a Jr. Ranger. Families, groups, and pets on a leash are welcome. Jr. Ranger Edition focuses on more hands-on and kid-friendly activities and topics.

       Sand Sculpting Day at the Beach 9am-5pm
       *AMATEUR BEACH SCULPTING CONTEST. This is a Community Event - no club affiliation. Weather permitting - will reschedule in case of bad weather. Make it a fun day for the parents and kids or get a group together for a fun filled effort. NO PROFESSIONALS PLEASE. Ribbons will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.        *The Gulf Coast Volleyball Association will host its "Galveston Grand Prix."   This is a USA Volleyball Junior National Qualifier.  Registration is open at GCVA

       Bucket Brigade Interpretive Beach Tours 9:30am-4:30pm (Tours departing at various times)
       *Come spend an hour on a Bucket Brigade Interpretive Beach Tour, and learn about the creatures and features that make Galveston's marine and coastal ecosystems so special! Tours provide free hands-on exploration of questions such as: Why does the water change colors? How is seaweed a good thing? How do I connect to the ocean? The tours are educational and fun for ocean lovers of all ages. Each tour caps at 20 participants, but with multiple tours each day, they welcome individuals and groups. Sign-up for tours is on location, but if your group would like to reserve a tour, email the Bucket Brigade Coordinator at kguidroz@artistboat.org, or call Artist Boat at (409)770-0722. Galveston Harbour Tours
       Marine Biology Tour 9:30am
       *Galveston Historical Foundation’s Texas Seaport Museum is pleased to announce that they will be offering their Marine Biology Harbor Tour to the public on a limited basis. This unique experience takes place on board the SEAGULL II, a 50’ catamaran which docks at the Texas Seaport Museum, Pier 21, in Galveston. The tour starts at 9:30am and costs $15 per person for adults 19+, and $12 for youth aged 6-18. Children 5 and under are free and reservations can be made online or by calling 409-763-1877. Marine Biology Tour

Galveston Island Brewing
        Galveston Island Brewing & Seawall Hike - Hike it Baby 9:30am
        *Join HIB for a family friendly day on the island. Meet at the playground at the brewery, walk a block to Seawall, continue along Seawall enjoying the gulf breezes & views of the water & beach, then return to the brewery (a total of approximtely 2 miles). HIB may stop for a quick romp on the beach before we return to the brewery where the kids are free to play on the playground & large grassy area, while the adults can buy a refreshing beer and participate in the free tour at 1pm. A taco truck is scheduled to be here, so don’t bother packing a lunch. Friendly dogs are welcome. Park onsite at Galveston Island Brewing in either the gravel parking lot near the playground, or the grassy area adjacent to the brewery. This a free event, but sadly the beer & taco truck are not. Be sure to bring money if you want to drink some tasty beer & chomp down some tacos. You will be on busy streets & there is a steep drop along the Seawall, so please plan to use a carrier or stroller for the little ones.  Hike It Baby

        *Ocean Star Family Days promote family learning and quality time at a reduced cost. Discover how hydrocarbons are formed from the various processes within every layer of the Earth, and how certain rocks tell geologists where to look for oil and natural gas. Moving through areas like the soil, volcanoes, and bodies of water, pretend you are a rock on your own special journey through the rock cycle. Create a comic strip of your rocky story, or learn about the ABCs of rocks and fossils.  Family Day

Sea Scout Base Galveston
       M/V Baysmart Express Public Cruise 12:30-4pm
       *Looking for something FUN? Hop aboard the M/V Baysmart Express for a 3 hour informative and scenic tour! Watch the pelicans soar over Offatts Bayou as you head into the Intercostal Waterway and pass under the Galveston Causeway Bridge. Be awed at the marine cargo vessels maneuvering in the Galveston and Houston Ship Channels. Dolphins surfacing are always exciting! Departing from and returning to the Sea Scout Base Galveston.         Beach Exploration 10-11:30am  
       *Walks led by Galveston Bay Area Texas Master Naturalists - come and make memories with your family and friends.   
       Fish Printing 11:30-12:30pm
       *Great Arts in the Parks craft program for the whole family to join! Bring your old shirts, or create a paper fish print with Ranger Lisa! She will be introducing young park visitors to the anatomy of a fish, and creating a special art piece, worthy of any refrigerator or frame. 
       Geocaching 101 1-2pm
       *Learn all about the treasure hunt of geocaching!
       Insect Safari 2:30-3:30pm
       *The park will be handing out bug nets and heading to the fields in search of bug-eyed, six-legged critters from butterflies to grasshoppers. This fun-filled catch-study-release program is perfect for children of all ages with a fascination with the world of insects. Meet at the Nature Center and venture into the prairie and pond area for some great fun! So, come check out our bee hives, save some special species and know what's flying around you next time you venture out into the park.

Kemah Boardwalk (off island)

       *Tours start at the Nature Learning Center and are led by volunteers from the Galveston Bay Area TX Master Naturalist. Come join the fun of seining, finding out more about fiddler crabs and experience all the bay has to offer.

The Grand 1894 Opera House
       Houston Grand Opera Presents After the Storm 7-8:30pm
       *Houston Grand Opera presents the world premiere of a riveting new chamber opera set in Galveston! Developed through historical research and interviews with residents of Galveston and Houston, After the Storm mines the legacy of the Great Storm of 1900 and Hurricane Ike in 2008 on the area in this story of one family’s choices in the face of crisis. After the Storm is sung in English with English subtitles. Running time is approximately 80 minutes. The Grand.
