Weekly Events & Activities Sept 4th-10th

What a whirlwind couple of weeks. My heart goes out to every individual and family that was affected by Harvey and the devastation it caused. It's been so inspiring to see how our island responded and jumped right in to help. We truly live in an amazing city! If you know of a family needing help, please contact me and I will try my best to assist them in getting it. There are many organizations and individuals on the island that are pulling together to make sure no one gets forgotten! As we are all recovering from Harvey and school is starting up, activities are quieter than normal. But the island and surrounding areas are keeping the resilience and many activities are still happening this weekend. Sometimes, in tragedy like this, just a simple break with a fun activity can do wonders for those involved! On Saturday, the kids can join the Daily News Press Run for a fun 1k. It's also Family Day at Ocean Star and Music Nite on the Strand with the Fab 5! If you have a Beat Bugs fan, this one is perfect for them! Galveston Island State Park has also started up their Insect Safari hikes for the fall. Finally, Artwalk is Saturday night, rescheduled from Aug 26th.        Children's Art Classes 3-7pm (Every Friday & Saturday)
       *Children's Art Classes every Friday 3-5pm & 5-7pm and Saturday 3-6pm. For ages 6-14. $20 per class, all art supplies provided, as well as healthy snacks and drinks. Tremont Art Classes
       Mommy & Me Classes 3-5pm (First Sunday of Every Month)
       *Come be a kid with your kids and let your infants and toddlers enjoy some sensory activities while creating fun and cute pieces of art. The class is over in 2 hours, but the memories will last a lifetime!  Call to reserve a space, $20 per class, all art supplies, snacks and drinks included.

       Galveston’s Own Farmers Market 9-1pm (Sun) & 3-7pm (Thurs) (Every Sunday & Thursday)

      *Pick up some local produce and help support local farmers and growers. They usually have a kids corner here and an artist playing some tunes.  Farmers Market

       McFamily Nights
       * Join McDonalds with your family for dinner! The three locations on the island host various themed family nights on Thursday nights. Check their Facebook events for the theme that week!

Sea Star Base Galveston

       Schooner Sundays 11-5pm (Every Sunday)

       *Get a fresh start to the day and set sail on the Galveston Sea Scout Base's schooner boat during "Schooner Sundays." The massive sailing beauty leaves Offats Bayou just after noon each Sunday and sails out to destinations beyond Galveston causeway. A licensed captain and “spot tracker” is aboard the ship, so you can sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. *Check with website for cost involved*

       M/V Baysmart Express Public Cruise 12:30-4pm (Every Saturday)

       *Looking for something FUN? Hop aboard the M/V Baysmart Express for a 3 hour informative and scenic tour! Watch the pelicans soar over Offatts Bayou as you head into the Intercostal Waterway and pass under the Galveston Causeway Bridge. Be awed at the marine cargo vessels maneuvering in the Galveston and Houston Ship Channels. Dolphins surfacing are always exciting! Departing from and returning to the Sea Scout Base Galveston. Boarding at 12:30 - Departing at 1:00pm. Overflow parking with shuttle service available. Adults: $30 | Kids (Under 12): $20 | Kids 5 and Under: Free SSB Calendar
