Galveston
       National Night Out Galveston 5-9pm
       *Last year’s event was a huge success as many new neighborhoods came on board and community participation in the festivities increased from previous years – the Galveston Police Department is hoping this year will be even bigger! This national event promotes neighborhood camaraderie by bringing neighbors together to effectively identify and fight crime while building relationships with one another and the Galveston Police Department.         Hotel Galvez Ghost Tour Dinner 6-8pm
        *In the spirit of the season, Hotel Galvez & Spa offers its popular ghost tour to the public as part of a dinner tour package on Tuesdays through Fridays in October. The tour and dinner is only available on Fridays as part of an overnight package. During the tour, staff guides participants through the ghostly past of the hotel which is then followed by dinner in the Galvez Bar & Grill. Priced at $45 per person, the one-hour public ghost tour is only available as part of the dinner-tour package. Advance reservations are required.         Zombie Apocalypse Hike 6-7pm
       *Have you wondered about your abilities to live in the wild, such as after an apocalyptic event? The park is going to talk about the basic skills needed to find food, water, shelter, and space in our short (somewhat humorous) program. It will begin at the Nature Center and travel to find the necessary items for survival. Then, they will discuss the importance of plants and human uses of the area. Finally, we'll test your luck to survive a zombie apocalypse. Everyone is welcome to this free hour-long program (pets and zombies must be on leash.) Bring your hiking gear for a short prairie walk.

       *Explore Galveston's oldest historic cemeteries on this hour long historic walking tour. See where Galveston's most famous and infamous citizens are laid to rest. Stories include murder, suicide, cannablism, and more.

       *This is a free class and open to the public. Learn all about the birds that call Galveston Island home! Birding 101
       Gritty Kids Youth Mud Run 2-3pm
       *MUD…SWEAT…CHEERS! This one’s for you, all of you boys and girls that are aged 6-16! It’s non-competitive! Your goals are to make it through the Gritty Course and have FUN! On the 1.5 mile course, you’ll meander your way through mud and muck near Offats Bayou. Yup, there will be mud. There will be sand. There will be foam. Along the way, you’ll go over, under, through, and into a variety of awesome obstacles, in your quest to be a Gritty Kid! If there’s an obstacle that spooks you, it’s ok. You can skip any of ‘em that seem too scary. If you want your mom or dad, brother or sister, aunt or uncle, grandfather or grandmother to tag along with you, that’s ok too! You’re allowed to bring one adult with you on the course! There is a $5 fee for each accompanying adult, to cover insurance costs. Gritty Kids

Kitchen Chick 
      Galveston Island Chicken Shack Strut! 10am-4pm
       *Started in 2013 by two bird brained friends, The Galveston Island Chicken Shack Strut is a one-day self-guided tour of coastal chicken coops, hen houses, mobile tractors, and crazy shacks. Open to adults & kids (everyone!), the tour showcases island chickens and their keepers, and demonstrates how more and more city folk are incorporating chickens into their yards and lifestyles. Visitors can talk to hosts about coops, feed, breeds, costs and their experiences raising healthy chickens in an urban environment as well as ask plenty of questions! The Galveston Island Chicken Shack Strut is always rain or shine event; fowl weather can’t stop, won’t stop the tour! Adults - $8; Kids - $4 Chicken Shack Strut

       Hike it Baby - Dadurday Saturday Hike & Brew 11am-2pm
       *Calling all HiB Dads! …and beer lovin Mommas. Get your hike on and reward yourself with an ice cold beer, while the tots play on the brewery playground. Meet in the Galveston Island Brewing parking lot, near the playground for Welcome Circle, then head off for a walk along Seawall. Seawall is a busy street with a steep drop on the beach side, so please plan to keep little ones in a carrier or stroller. Depending on the group, we will likely split into fast/slow groups. Return to the brewery where you can sit outside, picnic, watch the kiddos play on the playground, grab a cold beer, play corn hole or giant jenga, and enjoy a complimentary brewery tour at 1pm.  *For first timers - to attend a HIB event, you are now required to register on their website and sign the waiver.  Hike it Baby

       Galveston Art Bound: Celebrating Art and Books! 2-6pm
       *Bring the family to a fun Street Party right outside of GAC where you can enjoy bites and refreshments from Farley Girls Cafe or dance to the blues rock tunes of Baizan and Zipper of QandA and reggae/roots music from DEM. Included in Saturday’s festivities is the Amateur Team Art-making Challenge where teams compete to create works of art from repurposed books available on-site. Each creation will be included in a Live Auction at 5:30 PM with the creators of the work receiving highest bid receiving a first prize trophy. Galveston Arts Center

       Art of Intuitive Photography Workshop 1-4pm
Award-winning New York photographer Mindy VĂ©issid will be teaching her Art of Intuitive Photography workshop at the Galveston Arts Center on Sunday, October 9th, following the Saturday opening of her new photography exhibit, "Intuitive Moments" in the Arts Center's Brown Foundation Gallery. This is a unique workshop in which participants learn how to focus and tap into their own intuition, see better, and cultivate a way of shooting with a clear, free mind. The workshop will include a presentation and slideshow followed by outdoor exercises in intuition and seeing as well as discussions and compositional critique. $40  Open to all levels and all digital cameras, including smartphones and point-and-shoot cameras!Ages 12 to Adult.        Original Ghost Tour of the Strand Various Times - (Daily)
       *Dash Beardsley's Original Ghost Tour on the Strand is Galveston's most popular ghost tour! Like all of his tours, Dash has built this tour based on years of research, personal experience, and accounts from local residents. This year-round walking tour takes guests through one of the busiest areas in Galveston; The Strand.        *Get a fresh start to the day and set sail on the Galveston Sea Scout Base's schooner boat during "Schooner Sundays." The massive sailing beauty leaves Offats Bayou just after noon each Sunday and sails out to destinations beyond Galveston causeway. A licensed captain and “spot tracker” is aboard the ship, so you can sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. *Check with website for cost involved*
       M/V Baysmart Express Public Cruise 12:30-4pm (Every Saturday)
       *Looking for something FUN? Hop aboard the M/V Baysmart Express for a 3 hour informative and scenic tour! Watch the pelicans soar over Offatts Bayou as you head into the Intercostal Waterway and pass under the Galveston Causeway Bridge. Be awed at the marine cargo vessels maneuvering in the Galveston and Houston Ship Channels. Dolphins surfacing are always exciting! Departing from and returning to the Sea Scout Base Galveston.
