       *Chef Mary Bass will help your mini chef bake up a storm! Young cooks will learn to make fresh baked brownie a la mode, a luscious red velvet Oreo stuffed cupcake with homemade cream cheese frosting and a southern strawberry shortcake with fresh whipped cream! This cooking class is appropriate for children 7 years and older.  $50/child. Please call 409-497-2999 to reserve your spot!        *Meet in front of Sugar Bean coffee house and walk to the playground nearby. Playground is shaded but bring bug and sun cream to avoid bugs and burns. Bring plenty of water and snacks if you wish! They will walk on street but traffic is minimal there, please plan accordingly if you wish to get coffee or any other refreshments or snack at the coffee place. Texas Seaport Museum
       Summer at the Seaport: Sailing by the Stars 11am
       *Long before clocks were invented, sailors could tell the time at night just by using the stars. Come down to the Texas Seaport Museum and create your own star clock, learn how it works, then take it home to try it out on the night sky! Tickets for each class are $3 for children under five, $12 for youth aged 6-18 and $15 for adults and available online or by calling 409-763-1877. Summer at the Seaport

Galveston Island State Park

       Turtle Patrol Jr. 6-7pm  
       *Become a Jr. Ranger and help save the sea turtles! You can become a citizen scientist, and help the park to understand more about the Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtle, an endangered species that nests Galveston Island State Park. You will take a stroll down the beach and explore ways to help the environment. Meet at the day use picnic area and begin a short hike down the beach and through the dunes, patrolling for turtles on this easy, evening beach hike. Great for anyone wanted to become a Jr. Ranger. Families, groups, and pets on a leash are welcome. Jr. Ranger Edition focuses on more hands-on and kid-friendly activities and topics.

       *Operation Kid Safe is a FREE Health & Safety event offered to all young superheroes (ages 2 & up) in an effort to show how to avoid the risks of everyday exposures, both to their health & physical wellbeing. This event is made possible by local sponsors who specialize in health, fitness, safety, & general wellbeing of kids of all ages (including adults).        Family Day: Needle Through a Balloon 10am-3pm
       *Ocean Star Family Days promote family learning and quality time at a reduced cost. Needle Through a Balloon: Learn an amazing trick - almost like magic! A bamboo skewer coated with
petroleum jelly demonstrates the elasticity of polymers when pushed through a balloon. Locate the areas on the balloon that can be stretched, allowing the skewer to penetrate through the balloon without it popping. Family Day

Galveston Island State Park - Hike it Baby 
       Hike it Baby Beach Day 4-7pm
       *Join HIB for an afternoon at the beach. Drop in any time between 4pm and 7pm. Bring a shade, chairs, and sand toys. There is a short walk from the parking area to the beach. Look for the blue Sportsbrella with the red Texas HiB shirt. *Make sure sign waiver online if hiking with HIB for the first time! HIB Beach Day

       *Walks led by Galveston Bay Area Texas Master Naturalists - come and make memories with your family and friends.
       Geocaching 101 1pm
       *Learn all about the treasure hunt of geocaching!
       Sand Castle Contest 2:30-3:30pm
       *Ranger Lisa will clear an area for our contest, and bring some gear for you to use. The park wants to see what kind of castle you can make, so you're invited to spend some time gathering materials, building a structure, and decorating it to your liking! Prizes awarded to participants, but you can enter youth into our Arts in the Parks contest, via the Get to Know website for bigger prizes (ages 0-19yrs): Get to Know  Only sand castles made during the program count. No prior experience or materials needed.

       *This is a free class and open to the public. Learn all about the birds that call Galveston Island home!

       Galveston Sand Crab 5K, 10K, Kid Mile Nighttime Beach Run 8pm
      *Run entirely on sand, the Sand Crab is a great way to get a little exercise under the stars! Have a few beers and other refreshments while listening to great music with other runners on a summer night. All races are chip timed including the Kid’s Mile. The Kid’s Mile will start at 8 pm. Parents are welcome to run with kids free of charge. The course is lit with led lights. Runners are required to run with a flashlight or head lamp. Food Trucks and music at the finish. Start and finish at Apfel Park pavilion. Sand Crab Run

       *Tours start at the Nature Learning Center and are led by volunteers from the Galveston Bay Area TX Master Naturalist. Come join the fun of seining, finding out more about fiddler crabs and experience all the bay has to offer.

       GCVA "Hot as Hell Classic" 9am
       *The Gulf Coast Volleyball Association will host its  "Hot as Hell Classic" Tournament.

       *Join the Galveston Beach Band every Tuesday evening this summer beginning June 7th at 7:30 PM for a weekly outdoor summer pop band concert.  Every concert is free and offers great musical entertainment for the entire family!        Summer Art Program for Kids 9-10am (Ages 5-8), 10:30am-12:30pm (Ages 9-12) (Jun 10th-Aug 12 - Every Friday)
       *Friday morning classes are divided into two age groups: for 5-8 year-olds ($11 per class,) and for 9-12 year-olds ($22 per class.)  Taught by professional, working artists with teaching experience, the classes include topics like painting, printmaking, portraits, sculpture, comics and more.

       *Get a fresh start to the day and set sail on the Galveston Sea Scout Base's schooner boat during "Schooner Sundays." The massive sailing beauty leaves Offats Bayou just after noon each Sunday and sails out to destinations beyond Galveston causeway. A licensed captain and “spot tracker” is aboard the ship, so you can sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. *Check with website for cost involved*
       M/V Baysmart Express Public Cruise 12:30-4pm (Every Saturday)
       *Looking for something FUN? Hop aboard the M/V Baysmart Express for a 3 hour informative and scenic tour! Watch the pelicans soar over Offatts Bayou as you head into the Intercostal Waterway and pass under the Galveston Causeway Bridge. Be awed at the marine cargo vessels maneuvering in the Galveston and Houston Ship Channels. Dolphins surfacing are always exciting! Departing from and returning to the Sea Scout Base Galveston.        Bucket Brigade Interpretive Beach Tours 9:30am-4:30pm (Tours departing at various times - Daily in the summer)
       *Come spend an hour on a Bucket Brigade Interpretive Beach Tour, and learn about the creatures and features that make Galveston's marine and coastal ecosystems so special! Tours provide free hands-on exploration of questions such as: Why does the water change colors? How is seaweed a good thing? How do I connect to the ocean? The tours are educational and fun for ocean lovers of all ages. Each tour caps at 20 participants, but with multiple tours each day, they welcome individuals and groups. Sign-up for tours is on location, but if your group would like to reserve a tour, email the Bucket Brigade Coordinator at kguidroz@artistboat.org, or call Artist Boat at (409)770-0722.
