*Get a fresh start to the day and set sail on the Galveston Sea Scout Base’s schooner boat during “Schooner Sundays.” The massive sailing beauty leaves Offats Bayou just after noon each Sunday and sails out to destinations beyond Galveston causeway. *Meet at the palm tree island in the center of the playground, then walk to Seawall, walk along Seawall, then return to the playground to enjoy the fun playground equipment. The walk itself will be 2-3 miles, depending on the group. If there are slow & fast walkers, they might split into two groups. Please plan to use a carrier or stroller for little ones, as you will be crossing and walking on busy streets & there is a steep drop off on the beach side of the sidewalk. Schreiber Park Hike

Mini Medical School 6-8pm - The Immune System Part II - Infection
*For those who have always wanted to know more about how the body takes in oxygen and expels carbon dioxide, how the body fights off infections, or how blood circulates throughout the body, among other topics, The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston is hosting a Mini Medical School. A series of seven lectures beginning on March 23 will cover topics such as the respiratory system, the immune system, the nervous system, the cardiovascular system, the digestive system and health equity. All classes will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. at UTMB’s Levin Hall, 1006 Market Street, Galveston. The series is free, open to those 16 and older and those interested can attend one or all sessions. *Join Salty Culture on the beach at Galveston Island State Park, rain or shine, from 9am to 1pm. There is no fee to participate and GISP has graciously waived the park entrance fee for surf camp kids and their families. They will provide a fantastic lunch courtesy of Classic Auto Group after a morning of surfing with our local legends. Free t-shirts will be provided for the first 35 kids courtesy of Outback T-shirt Company so get there early! A family dream inspired by his father's two world voyages as First Mate with Irving John-son on the Brigantine YANKEE, theirs was a the culmination of 18 years of planning and saving. Standing watch, sailing the vessel, visiting exotic foreign ports and going to school in different countries, this story will give you insights into the younger years of ELISSA’s captain Admission is $15 per person. *Throughout the month of April, utilize sailing as an educational platform, challenge youth to embrace education, establish a love of learning and explore productive Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) based careers. Combining educators, sailing instructors, engineers, scientists with today’s youth to provide them with a one of a kind authentic learning experience, giving students the opportunity to apply classroom learning in a cooperative work environment.
This is a month long program for youth whose schedules are open during the weekends. It is a full day program during the month of April. Each Saturday teaches two different sailing concepts over the five week program. Ages: 14-18, must be a High School student or a previous student in our REACH program.
