       Schooner Sundays 2-5pm (Every Sunday)
       *Get a fresh start to the day and set sail on the Galveston Sea Scout Base’s schooner boat during “Schooner Sundays.” The massive sailing beauty leaves Offats Bayou just after noon each Sunday and sails out to destinations beyond Galveston causeway. A licensed captain and “spot tracker” is aboard the ship, so you can sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. *Check with website for cost involved*  Schooner Sundays

       Mini Medical School 6-8pm - Digestive System
       *For those who have always wanted to know more about how the body takes in oxygen and expels carbon dioxide, how the body fights off infections, or how blood circulates throughout the body, among other topics, The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston is hosting a Mini Medical School. A series of seven lectures beginning on March 23 will cover topics such as the respiratory system, the immune system, the nervous system, the cardiovascular system, the digestive system and health equity. All classes will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. at UTMB’s Levin Hall, 1006 Market Street, Galveston. The series is free, open to those 16 and older and those interested can attend one or all sessions. But space is limited and registration is required. The registration deadline is March 16. East Beach/Apffel Park
       Beach Walk - Hike it Baby 9:30-1pm
       *Come join HIB on a kid led beach hike! You can explore the beach and find treasures on your way to Play at Apffel Park! Meet at the Public Beach Parking lot, which is on the right immediately after the turn in for Palisades Palms. You will see the public beach access sign, & there is a big parking lot. This is where you will do a group circle, then make your way to the beach by hiking over the public ramp. It is a 1 1/2 mile hike to get to Apffel Park, where the kids can play & have a snack/lunch break. This is also a good time to let the kids have fun in the sand, so bring a few beach toys! There are bathrooms available, & several picnic benches. Dogs on a leash are welcome! Please bring your sunscreen, extra water & bug repellent, as there is very little shade. You will hike back the way you came, for a round trip hike of 3 miles. Also the majority of the sand that we will be walking on is packed, so the hike should not be too strenuous. Hope to see y’all there! **Make sure you sign the waiver before participating in any HIB hikes!  East Beach Walk

       *Frontier Days Carnival opens at 5:00 p.m. and runs until 10:00 p.m. The carnival will be set up in the parking lot adjacent to Stanton's Shopping Center.  The carnival runs all weekend! Frontier Days

       *On Friday, April 29th Junior Gordon Band kicks off the Frontier Days Concert next to the Gordon Street Tavern. They will begin playing at 9:00 PM and will perform until midnight. The Concert is free and food and drinks will be served.  The carnival runs all weekend! Frontier Days

       *Fun for the whole family! Exciting and fun new categories will be added to this year's family-friendly dog show - the 6th annual “A Bark in the Park” The event is open to the public and admission is free. Following on-site registration (27th & Avenue N entrance at Kempner Park) which opens at 9.30am, the 6th annual Galveston Island Dog Show - "A Bark in the Park" begins with the "Blessing of the Dogs", officiated by Pastor Richard Rhodes. Scholes International Airport at Galveston
       Galveston Island 150 Air Race 11am-2pm
       *Look to the sky as air racers return to Galveston Island! Pilots are scheduled to take-off from Scholes International Airport to compete in a timed race along a 150 mile flight course over Galveston Island and the surrounding area. It is anticipated that between twenty and thirty planes will participate in the league sanctioned championship point competition completing the “Greg Bordelon Texas Twister Course” which includes nine challenging turns over Galveston Bay. This will be a unique showcase of different planes as all propeller driven, fixed wing aircraft are eligible. Air Race

Clay Cup Studios
       Mother's Day Workshop 10am-12pm
       *You will get to paint a flower pot shaped like a watering can! Not only that but there will be an assortment of flowers from Downtown Blooms to choose from if you want to fill your flower pots!! This workshop is great for all ages.  All projects will be done by Friday May 6th. If you would like to pot the plant you picked out you can do that from 3-7pm on Friday May 6th. If not no worries, Clay Cup will finish for you. Please RSVP as soon as possible, - limited watering cans. Flowers are not included in the price. Cost is $25.   Workshop

       *Come spend an hour on a Bucket Brigade Interpretive Beach Tour, and learn about the creatures and features that make Galveston's marine and coastal ecosystems so special! Tours provide free hands-on exploration of questions such as: Why does the water change colors? How is seaweed a good thing? How do I connect to the ocean? The tours are educational and fun for ocean lovers of all ages. Each tour caps at 20 participants, but with multiple tours each day, they welcome individuals and groups. Sign-up for tours is on location, but if your group would like to reserve a tour, email the Bucket Brigade Coordinator at kguidroz@artistboat.org, or call Artist Boat at (409)770-0722.      Marine Biology Tours 9:30-11am
     *Galveston Historical Foundation’s Texas Seaport Museum is pleased to announce that they will be offering their Marine Biology Harbor Tour to the public on a limited basis. This unique experience takes place on board the SEAGULL II, a 50’ catamaran which docks at the Texas Seaport Museum, Pier 21, in Galveston. The tour starts at 9:30am and costs $15 per person for adults 19+, and $12 for youth aged 6-18. Children 5 and under are free and reservations can be made online at Harbour Tours or by calling 409-763-1877.

      US Sailing REACH on the Weekends 9am-5pm
       *Throughout the month of April, utilize sailing as an educational platform, challenge youth to embrace education, establish a love of learning and explore productive Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) based careers. Combining educators, sailing instructors, engineers, scientists with today’s youth to provide them with a one of a kind authentic learning experience, giving students the opportunity to apply classroom learning in a cooperative work environment.
This is a month long program for youth whose schedules are open during the weekends. It is a full day program during the month of April. Each Saturday teaches two different sailing concepts over the five week program. Ages: 14-18, must be a High School student or a previous student in our REACH program. Time: 9 - 5pm Cost: $400 for 5 weeks Bring your own lunch and water bottle!        M/V Baysmart Express Public Cruise 12:30-4pm
       *Looking for something FUN? Hop aboard the M/V Baysmart Express for a 3 hour informative and scenic tour! Watch the pelicans soar over Offatts Bayou as you head into the Intercostal Waterway and pass under the Galveston Causeway Bridge. Be awed at the marine cargo vessels maneuvering in the Galveston and Houston Ship Channels. Dolphins surfacing are always exciting! Departing from and returning to the Sea Scout Base Galveston. Awesome program for scouts, families, and anyone interested in learning more about our feathered friends.  You will discuss identification, field skills, listing, and why this island is a birding paradise!

       *Let the beauty found in Galveston Island State Park inspire you to pick up a brush and lay down some color. Create a one-of-a-kind souvenir, and make some memories with Ranger Lisa.

       *Arts and Crafts vendors will be set up on Sealy Street Saturday. Saturday's full day of events features the Frontier Days Parade through the old downtown area of Alvin. Special activities are held throughout the day, including the popular "shoot-out" performances by the Alvin Rotary Club Gunfighters. Nearby kiddie rides, food concessions, and carnival activities run concurrent with the Arts, Crafts & Collectibles Festival. and the Antique and Collectible Car and Bike Show.        *Come meet up at beautiful Evia neighborhood in Galveston. The hike will meet at Sugar Bean and walk around pond to very cool pirate ship playground! The walk will be next to the street in some places but there is only few cars driving by very slowly. It’s a toddler led walk around 1mile long. You can purchase snacks, coffee, smoothies at the coffee shop or bring your own lunch! Please bring sun lotion and/or bug repellent.        *Join Ranger Lisa on a short morning yoga session at the day-use area of our beach (just down the boardwalk from the restrooms and picnic tables.) Bring your water bottle and yoga mat or towel, but be prepared for sandy toes!  Great for campers or adults wishing to come into the park for the day!
       Go Fish! Learn to Fish Event 9am-12pm
       *Come learn how to fish with fun hands on activities for families of all ages! No experience or equipment needed and no fishing licenses required for this event. There is an entrance fee for the state park but the Go Fish event is no additional cost.

       *Meet at the palm tree island in the center of the playground, then walk to Seawall, walk along Seawall, then return to the playground to enjoy the fun playground equipment. The walk itself will be 2-3 miles, depending on the group. If there are slow & fast walkers, they might split into two groups.        Mini Medical School 6-8pm - Nervous System
       *For those who have always wanted to know more about how the body takes in oxygen and expels carbon dioxide, how the body fights off infections, or how blood circulates throughout the body, among other topics, The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston is hosting a Mini Medical School. A series of seven lectures beginning on March 23 will cover topics such as the respiratory system, the immune system, the nervous system, the cardiovascular system, the digestive system and health equity. All classes will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. at UTMB’s Levin Hall, 1006 Market Street, Galveston. The series is free, open to those 16 and older and those interested can attend one or all sessions. But space is limited and registration is required. The registration deadline is March 16. But, it's more than just a race, it symbolizes an empowered group of men, women and children advocating to improve access to nutritious foods for all children despite their economic status.       US Sailing REACH on the Weekends 9am-5pm
       *Throughout the month of April, utilize sailing as an educational platform, challenge youth to embrace education, establish a love of learning and explore productive Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) based careers. Combining educators, sailing instructors, engineers, scientists with today’s youth to provide them with a one of a kind authentic learning experience, giving students the opportunity to apply classroom learning in a cooperative work environment.
This is a month long program for youth whose schedules are open during the weekends. It is a full day program during the month of April. Each Saturday teaches two different sailing concepts over the five week program. Ages: 14-18, must be a High School student or a previous student in our REACH program. Time: 9 - 5pm Cost: $400 for 5 weeks Bring your own lunch and water bottle!      *Galveston Historical Foundation’s Texas Seaport Museum is pleased to announce that they will be offering their Marine Biology Harbor Tour to the public on a limited basis. This unique experience takes place on board the SEAGULL II, a 50’ catamaran which docks at the Texas Seaport Museum, Pier 21, in Galveston. The tour starts at 9:30am and costs $15 per person for adults 19+, and $12 for youth aged 6-18. The Lighthouse Charity Cooking Team will be back - under the direction of Dick and Horacene Daugird and their great crew - preparing a superb plate of Cajun-seasoned crawfish, potatoes, onions and fresh corn on the cob. Island Summer Camps

Texas A&M Galveston 
       Sea Camp Adventures  (Jun, Jul, Aug)
       *Texas A&M Galveston has lots of different sea camps to choose from! From Marine Biology to Fishing Camp to trips to Costa Rica - they have a little bit of everything! They are filling up quickly so if you are interested - act fast! Ages 10-18  Sea Camps

Fishing Galveston Texas - Halls Landing
       Fishing Camp  (Jun-Aug, Select Dates)
       *This summer camp teaches all of the basics of fishing. From knot tying, how to properly bait a hook, casting, and battling a fish on a rod and reel, to even how to throw a cast net and catch your own live bait. Your child will learn from a Licensed US Coast Guard Captain and Professional Galveston Bay Fishing Guide. There are one to two hours of hands-on teaching at the dock, then everyone will board the boats, and take off to the hot fishing spots to catch redfish, speckled trout, flounder and many other saltwater species. If you would like to enroll your child for a Galveston Summer Fishing Camp, or have questions - call 409-739-8526 or email greg@fishinggalvestontx.com. Prices for each one day camp is $150 per child. Kids can enroll in more than one camp date. Times are from 8am to 2pm.       REACH Camp (Jul 25-29)
      * The Reach program utilizes sailing as an educational platform, challenging youth to embrace education and get the chance to explore productive Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) based careers. This is a day camp during the final week of July. Monday through Thursday is a day camp. However, the final night, Thursday, is a sleep over! So please be prepared. Lunch will not be provided, but dinner on Thursday night and breakfast on Friday. Ages: 14-18, must be a registered High School student. Time: 8-5 pm  Cost: $550    REACH Camp

       Preschool Camp (Select Saturdays Feb-Aug)
       *Join Moody Gardens as your lil' will learn through story time, make a craft, have a themed snack, and visit one of the Pyramids at Moody Gardens. Preschool camps are designed for campers 3-4 years of age, accompanied by one adult. Non-members: $20 per day Members: $17 per day. Reservations and pre-payment are required for all programs.
       Day Camps (Select Weeks Jun-Aug)
       *Get ready for adventure as your lil' one will discover the amazing worlds of oceans, rainforests, and much more during Moody's exciting Day Camps! Campers will learn about animals and their habitats through hands on exploration. Each camp includes a variety of activities, including making crafts, conducting experiments, playing games, and participating in guided tours of the Pyramids Day camps are designed for campers ages 5-6 and 7-9. Non-members Half Day: $40 per day, $160 all week. Non-members Full Day: $60 per day, $250 all week. Members Half Day: $34 per day, $136 all week. Members Full Day: $51 per day, $212.50 all week.
       Junior Scientist Camp (Select Tuesdays Jun-Aug)
       *Find out what skills are needed to be keepers of plants and animals at Moody Gardens during their Jr. Garden Artist and Jr. Keeper Camps. These camps include tours of the Rainforest and Aquarium Pyramids. Through hands on activities, experiments, and games, campers will learn about plant adaptations and will get to practice their observation skills to find pesky plant pests during the Jr. Garden Artist camp; so come out and have unexpected fun! Ages 10-11. Non-members: $75 per day. Members: $63.75 per day
       Scientist For A Day Camp (Select Thursdays Jun-Aug)
       *Learn what it’s like to be a keeper of plants and animals at Moody Gardens during Garden Artist for a Day and Keeper for a Day Camps. Campers will explore plant care, nature friendly pest control, exhibit requirements, and how animals benefit from plants as you work alongside the Gardens staff in the Rainforest during the Garden Artist for a Day Camp. Campers will explore animal training, enrichment, exhibit requirements, and help prepare food diets for the animals in the Rainforest and Aquarium Pyramids during the Keeper for a Day Camp. Ages 12-13. Non-members: $75 per day. Members: $63.75 per day

       Fairy Tale Camp (Jul 11-15, Aug 1-5)

Moody Gardens Golf Course
       Junior Golf Summer Camp (Select Weeks Jun & Jul)
       *Instruction includes swing basics for putting, chipping, the full swing, introduction and review of rules & etiquette, and lots of fun-based golf learning games. For ages 6-14. Cost is $100 per child.

East End Theater Company (ETC)
       Students on Stage (Jun 6-25)
       *ETC is proud to provide the youth of Galveston County with Students on Stage classes in the performing arts. The session culminates in a live public performances of a show at the end of the session. Students are instructed in the principles of acting, singing, dance, improvisation, costume & set design, and auditioning by highly-qualified faculty and guest artists. Ages 8-18 are welcome. Class size is strictly limited, so don't delay! June 6 - 25; Monday - Friday 8:30am - 12:30pm. Live performance dates: June 24, 25 & 26 (matinee and evening performances on Saturday 6/25). The show is Beauty and the Beast and all summer session students will audition and be cast in the show.
$375 for the Summer session (that's $4.69 per hour!) $100 non-refundable registration fee (applied toward tuition). Some partial scholarships available. Call ETC at 409-762-3556 with any questions. The Grand 1894 Opera House
       Summer Theatre Camp (Jul 25-29)
       * If you love to perform for family and friends – this is the camp for you! Led by actors/directors from Missoula Children’s Theatre as well as The Grand’s camp staff, camp will consist of daily rehearsals and direction on acting, singing and technical theatre, as well as theatre crafts and performance instruction. Summer Theatre Camp is a week-long residency program presented by Missoula Children’s Theatre and The Grand and will culminate in a full performance of PINOCCHIO on Friday, July 29th at 6pm on The Grand’s stage. 12:30pm – 5:30pm Daily. Open to students ages 7-16. COST: $245.00 per student. Campers must commit to attending all camp sessions and participating in the final performance on Friday evening.        *Clay Cup Studios has (3) 5 day Art Camps. Your child will be able to learn different mediums of art, make some really cool projects, hang out with friends and have a ton of fun! Register with a deposit of $25 that will go towards your balance. Preregister by the end of April and receive a 10% discount! Camp is $175. Children must be 6-13 years of age. Camps are subject to cancellation if there is not at least 6 kids signed up.        Kids Summer Camp (Jun-Aug)
       *Do you have a little one that loves to cook!? Sign them up for cooking summer camp at The Kitchen Chick! From learning Tex Mex to how to bake - there is a variety of classes to choose from! The camps are for ages 7-14. Each camp is 4 days in length, held 1PM-4:30PM, limited to 12 students and led by dynamic duo of certified teachers. The Kitchen Chick will provide aprons for each child to wear and all supplies and tools.  Children can register for any number of weeks during the summer – pick one or two weeks, or sign up for all seven! The cost for each one-week (4-Day: Monday, Wednesday-Friday) session is $300 per camper. The Kitchen Chick offers a $25 discount when enrolling a sibling in the same session. Ohana Surf & Skate 
       Surf Camp (Select dates Jun-Aug)
       *Learn to surf or improve your surfing skills presented by Ohana Surf Camps. Ohana has over 11 years of camp experience on Galveston Island teaching kids how to enjoy surfing and offer lessons everyday of the week. Your child will be met each morning at 9:00 a.m. by their own Ohana Surf Camp instructor on the beach between 28th & 29th St. on Seawall Blvd. (weekdays) or West Beach / Hershey Beach (weekends). These are excellent sites with good waves, sandy bottoms, and safe environments for learning to surf. As required, our instructors are Open Water Safety Certified, as well as camp being monitored by the Galveston Beach Patrol Lifeguards which are on duty at the 27th and 29th street jetties from 9:00 a.m. until the end of the day. Surf Camp hours are 9:00 am till 12:00 noon daily through the summer season.  Ages 6-17. Prices vary depending on activity and length. Surf Camp

       *PIRATE CAMP is the best fun a kid who loves pirates can have. Spend the day with pirates - it's educational! They do role playing, arts & crafts, games and fun. Each camper will receive a hat, a foam sword (learn sword fighting skills during our role playing fun), and a certificate issued by
Pirates! Legends of the Gulf Coast certifying their allegiance to the band of pirates. Camp begins promptly at 10 AM each day and ends at approximately 1:45 PM. $60 per child payment required at registration. All campers must bring a bag lunch and drink. This is a co-ed camp for 6-10 year olds. Limited to 10 children per day. Galveston Island Beach Patrol
       Junior Lifeguard Day Camp (Jun 8-Jul 17)
       *Youths between the ages of 10 and 15 can in the Galveston Island Beach Patrol Junior Lifeguard Day Camp Program. To participate, youths should have an interest in the beach environment, must be able to swim two laps (100 meters) without stopping, and be able to tread water for five to seven minutes depending on their age category. This camp is also a great first step for those youths who are interested in eventually becoming Galveston Island Beach Patrol Lifeguards.  Cost of Camp: $325/*$80 *Scholarship available for those who qualify for free or reduced lunch.

       Surf Camp - Galveston Island State Park (Jun -Aug)
       *Texas Surf Camps primary focus is on surfing instruction and practice. It is their goal to provide each camper with the confidence and knowledge to continue the great sport of surfing on his or her own after camp is over. They also teach ocean education and awareness through fun, hands-on games and activities and presentations from organizations such as Surfrider Foundation. Requirements: MUST HAVE basic swimming skills and be comfortable in the ocean (One-on-one private lessons are available for non-swimmers). Age 6 & Up (as of June 1, 2016) (Private Lesson only for under age 6) No Surfing Experience required! (Except for advanced camps).        *Printmaking, June 20-23, Melted Crayon, June 27-30, Mosaics, July 12-14. Diane Fifer has been teaching art for 17 years and will teach this week-long workshop for ages 7 to 12. She has scheduled classes in printmaking, mosiac, embossing and melted crayon. Classes start on Monday and end on Thursday: June 20-23; June 27-30; July 12-14.
