Get your advent calendars ready - December is creeping up on us this week! All the holiday happenings are in full swing and more events are popping up. Throughout the week make sure you are stopping by the library for Christmas Countdown with a story. On Thursday, Galveston Children's Museum is having Dickens Tea Party, so be sure to register if you haven't already! Friday, Dickens on the Strand kicks off and Ronald McDonald House is having their annual Lights of Love bash! Along with Dickens on the Strand over the weekend, you can check out Cheer on the Pier on Saturday and Sunday Brunch with Santa at The Galvez on Sunday. Also Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol is playing at The Grand this weekend - grab a Groupon for it below!        *Moody Gardens’ Festival of Lights returns for the 15th year to brighten the holiday season from November 12, 2016 through January 8, 2017.As one of the largest holiday celebrations in the region, Festival of Lights has become a holiday tradition for families and groups alike. Enjoy more than one million lights within 100 sound-enhanced animated light displays and nightly live entertainment. You can also skate around on the area’s only outdoor ice skating rink (bring your own skates or rentals available for $7), try out their Arctic Slide or take pictures with Santa. Moody Gardens

       *The 2016 Magical Winter Lights will return to Houston at Gulf Greyhound Park this winter from November 18, 2016 to January 8, 2017 including Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day. This year’s festival will feature six fascinating themed sections including Magical Wonderland, Holiday Market Square, Dinosaur Land, Mystery of the East, Man and Nature, and Landmarks of the World. There will be an expanded interactive dinosaur exhibit complete with dinosaur rides, a 3-D art installation, daily acrobatic performances, authentic arts and crafts created by skilled Chinese artisans, amusement rides and games, and live entertainment. The massive sailing beauty leaves Offats Bayou just after noon each Sunday and sails out to destinations beyond Galveston causeway. It's Thanksgiving week! What's everyone thankful for? It's a surreal week for Galveston Island Kids as I started this blog a year ago! I am certainly thankful for all of you and your help on updating me on events & activities! I've had so much fun trying to keep island area families informed. :-) This week will be lots of fun with kids off school, Santa Sightings, and tree lightings! Throughout the week check out kids cooking classes at Kitchen chick, Turkey Day camp at Clay Cup Studios, and Lego Brickyard at Rosenberg Library. For Thanksgiving Day and you can take a Fat Cat Beach Stroll at Galveston Island State Park after your lunch or Pleasure Pier is open for fun! Friday check out the island favorite holiday tree lighting at Hotel Galvez!  Your weekend is full with tree lighting at Hendley Green, Porch Rocking with Santa at the Bryan Museum, and Artwalk downtown. The holidays happenings are in full swing on the island! You can can now check out the Festival of Lights & Ice Sculptures at Moody Gardens. Thursdays is Food Drive Thursday - bring a non-perishable food item and receive two-for-one festival admission! Tuesday there is a free SMART Family party at The Spot. Family Fun Night is Thursday at Rosenberg Library and Friday night you can take a Sunset Photo hike at Galveston State Park! Saturday you can check out Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer The Musical (scroll down for a link to a Groupon for discounted admission)! There is also Harry Potter Trivia for teens on Saturday at Rosenberg Library and Galveston Island State Park has a new stargazing hike!! On Sunday sign up the kids for a cooking class with Kitchen Chick or stop by Clay Cup Studios for a really neat life casting event! It's all happening here folks! The island is kicking off Winter Wonder Island for 2016! It all starts on November 12th! There are so many great activities and opportunities to get in the holiday mood! There are tree lightings, festivals, shows, lights, classes and more! Scroll through the calendar and start planning your holidays! Galveston Island 2016 Santa Sightings

Here is a quick rundown of where you can Santa throughout the island this Holiday season! Check back often as I will add events as they pop up through December! Happy Santa hunting!!

Moody Gardens - Festival of Lights
     DATES: Nov 12th-Dec 23rd
    Santa is parachuting in on Nov. 12th to get Winter Wonder Island kicked off! Santa will be at Moody Gardens for pictures on weekends Nov 13th-Dec 18th. You can find him there daily Dec 19th-23rd.   Santa @ Moody

Schlitterbahn Waterpark - Holiday Splash
      DATES: Nov 21st-Dec 23rd
      Santa hops on a bodyboard and surfs the wave to show off his tricks, then he helps little ones learn to surf in a brief one-on-one lesson. Kids have the opportunity to meet Santa in this unique way three times a day through - 1pm, 2pm, and 3pm through Dec 23!  Santa @ Schlitterbahn

Ronald McDonald Lights of Love
      DATES: Dec 2nd
      Ronald McDonald House Galveston presents its 11th annual Lights of Love event on Friday, December 2nd from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. There will be refreshments, games and pictures taken with Santa.... And let's not forget the Holiday Silent Auction. Santa @ Lights of Love
    
Hotel Galvez 
Brunch With Santa
     DATES: Dec 4th, 11th, 18th
     Enjoy the Hotel Gnalvez's famous brunch while the kids get a chance to meet Santa. This is a great way to get for the kids to get some one on one time with the man himself! Reservations recommended! Santa @ Galvez

Pleasure Pier - Cheer on the Pier
       DATE: Dec 3rd-24th
       Spend your Saturdays at the Pleasure Pier with Santa! Families can watch holiday movies, enjoy kids activities and rides! Activities at Santa’s Workshop are from 12pm-4pm and include photos with Santa, letters to Santa and cookie decorating. Holiday movies are from 7pm to 9pm. Rosenberg Library - Stories with Santa

Galveston Railroad Museum - Santa Train
      DATE: Dec 10th
      Santa is coming to town! Santa parks the sleigh and rides into the museum on the Harborside Express, decorated in its winter finery. Then he takes up station in our Depot to visit with the children and hear their wish lists.  Santa @ Railroad Museum

Tom Thumb Nursery - Santa Paws

     DATE: Dec 10th
     Get your picture taken with your pet and Santa at Tom's Thumb Nursery from 10-2. Proceeds support the Galveston Island Humane Society.  All proceeds from the pics will benefit the Humane Society.   Santa @ Tom Thumb

The Strand

      Lots of Santas here! This will be people dressed as Santa - I don't think there is an "official" Santa. Jingle all the way through the course with candy and cookies, festive music, creative Christmas images, and so much more, it is all designed to get you in the perfect holiday mood. City of Galveston
      DATES: Dec 18th, 19th, 20th
      The Galveston Fire Department presents the first annual Santa's Island Tour! Beginning on December 18th,GFD will escort Santa on a fire truck each night through the streets of Galveston to wave at all of the little girls and boys who are anticipating his December 25th arrival! Each night he will begin on the routes posted below at 6pm. We would encourage any residents whose streets are not shown to join your neighbors on the street closest to your home and listen for the lights and sirens!  Santa @ Galveston

Do you hear Sleigh Bells yet!? The island is gearing up for the holidays and we start well before Thanksgiving! This week on Wednesday check out the Fall Festival at Galveston College - lots of activities for the kids! Thursday is Family Free Night at Galveston Children's Museum. Bring the whole family out for some free fun! Saturday is the big holiday kick off with the Festival of Lights and Ice Sculptures  at Moody Gardens opening. Santa is going to parachute in to get things started!! On Sunday check out the Sea Scout Base Fall Festival or Elf the Musical if you really want to get in the holiday spirit! A pretty great weekend! Be awed at the marine cargo vessels maneuvering in the Galveston and Houston Ship Channels. Dolphins surfacing are always exciting! Departing from and returning to the Sea Scout Base Galveston.
